Delete Your SmartChapterMate Account
An adult account owner can permanently delete the account and associated active application data, including student or self-learning profiles. You do not need to verify your email before using in-app deletion if you can sign in. Follow the steps below, or use the external request method if you cannot access the app.
Delete from the app
- Open SmartChapterMate.
- Sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Open the Account tab. The screen heading is Your account.
- Select Delete account.
- Review the information in the Delete account permanently? confirmation.
- Select Delete account in that confirmation to permanently delete the account. You can select Cancel instead to keep your account.
Deletion is permanent. Once in-app account deletion completes successfully, the active SmartChapterMate account and associated study data cannot be restored through the app.
What is deleted
Successful deletion removes active application database records associated with your account:
- The adult account and student or self-learning profiles.
- Authentication tokens, adult-ownership/email-verification records and outstanding verification codes.
- Owned chapters, page records, extracted OCR text and stored content-safety decisions.
- Generated explanations, revision notes, vocabulary, questions and answers and other study material.
- Quizzes, attempts/results, flashcards and study sessions.
- Account-associated chapter usage, quota-limit events and plan-interest feedback, subject to the separate expiring quota-abuse record below.
Private uploaded images are queued for deletion transactionally and removed asynchronously by scheduled cleanup. A storage error does not restore the deleted account: durable jobs retry until removal succeeds. Cleanup checks active page references before deleting a file and does not delete unrelated users' files. Tracked app-cache images and local session data are also cleared where device operations succeed; original photos outside the app cache are preserved.
What may remain and why
- Current-month allowance protection: a keyed HMAC of the normalized adult account email, quota month, consumed count and expiry may remain until the next UTC calendar month starts. It contains no raw email, account link or device identifier. It prevents a fresh free allowance through deletion/recreation and is pseudonymous, not anonymous.
- Temporary rate-limit counters: keyed identifiers, counts and expiry may remain until the applicable hourly/daily window ends to prevent verification and generation abuse; these counter records do not store raw email or IP addresses.
- Private-file cleanup evidence: exact storage keys and retry metadata remain until file deletion succeeds. Upload journals identify abandoned uploads eligible for checks after 24 hours, preserving active files.
- Backup, log and provider copies: limited information may remain under actual backup, security, operational, legal or service-provider retention requirements. Google Cloud, OpenAI and Brevo may hold data under their applicable processing terms and controls.
Expired quota, rate-limit and verification records are purged by scheduled cleanup. The intended schedule is every 15 minutes when enabled, but provider failures, backoff or missed runs can delay physical removal. We do not promise immediate deletion from every backup/provider system or invent a fixed retention period for those copies. Deleting an account does not guarantee deletion of already-sent verification messages from your inbox or Brevo's delivery records.
OpenAI Zero Data Retention approval remains pending. The store=False request setting does not guarantee Zero Data Retention. See the Privacy Policy for data flows and provider processing.

Request account deletion by emailing SmartChapterMate at djsstechconsulting@gmail.com. State that you want to delete your SmartChapterMate account and associated data. Preferably send the request from the email address associated with your account so account ownership can be verified.
For email or manual deletion requests, we may need to verify account ownership before processing deletion. Provide only the information necessary to identify the account and your request; do not send passwords, authentication tokens, government identification or unnecessary sensitive information.
SmartChapterMate will never ask you to send your account password to request deletion.
